2023 Clarnette Grampians Durif
Durif or as our American cousins call it Petite Syrah, is a dark red berry in colour and favour. It originally comes from France where it has all but disappeared, with some grown in Piemonte Italy. Its parents have been given DNA testing and have arrived at Pelorsien and Syrah. It provides an inky intense type of wine that ages well and masses of dark red fruits. This one is soft and approachable style and early drinking.
As this is my first I find it fascinating and my sons have loved it over the summer months. It very similar to Tempranillo and its softness is its great appeal.
